Jammu, Sept 08 (KNO): A special flood relief train started operations in the Jammu division on Monday, running between Katra and Sangaldan for five days to assist people affected by recent rains and floods, officials said.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the train has been pressed into service to carry both passengers and essential relief material to flood-hit areas.
"On its first run, over 1,500 passengers availed the facility, while nearly 1,200 tonnes of food supplies, including wheat and rice, are scheduled to be distributed at various stations along the route," he said.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, said that the first consignment of 4 tonnes will be delivered on September 9. “The service will continue for five days, ensuring both connectivity and timely relief support,” he said. (KNO)
